Coaching

Online coaching or 1:1 personal training: which is right for you?

Choose 1:1 if you’re new to lifting, returning from injury, or near Peterborough or King’s Cliffe. Choose online (£150 a month) if you train confidently, run, or live elsewhere.

Key takeaways
  • Choose 1:1 if you’re new to lifting, returning from injury, or can get to Peterborough or King’s Cliffe.
  • Choose online if you train confidently, you’re a runner wanting strength work, or you live elsewhere in the UK.
  • 1:1 is from £40 a session; online is £150 a month, month to month.
  • The method is the same either way, so you can start in person and move online later.

The short answer

If you live near Peterborough or King’s Cliffe and you’re new to lifting, train in person. If you already train confidently on your own, you’re a runner wanting structured strength work, or you live somewhere else in the UK, online coaching is usually the better fit. That’s the honest version, and it’s what I tell people at the consultation.

What each one includes

1:1 personal training — from £40

Online coaching — £150 a month

  • An onboarding call and movement screen by video before anything is programmed.
  • Your programme in the Rudman Coaching app, written for your goal, your equipment and your week, with demo videos for every movement.
  • Regular check-ins with me reviewing your numbers — not automated messages — and the plan changed when your progress or your week says it should.
  • Month to month, no minimum term. The app is on iOS; if you’re on Android, mention it at the consultation.

What a 1:1 session actually looks like

The first session is an assessment rather than a workout: your goals, training history, any injuries, and how you move through a few basic patterns. From then on, a typical session is a structured warm-up, the main lifts coached set by set, a few accessory exercises, and a quick note on what changes next time. You leave knowing exactly what the session was for.

What online coaching looks like week to week

You open the app, see the session for the day, and train with demo videos for every movement. You log what you lifted and how it felt. At each check-in I review your numbers, your notes and how the week actually went, then change the plan where it needs changing. The accountability is real — you’re just not being watched rep by rep.

Choose 1:1 if…

  • You’re new to lifting and want your technique coached from the start.
  • You’re returning from an injury or surgery.
  • You know you train harder with someone there.
  • You can get to Peterborough or King’s Cliffe.

Choose online if…

  • You’re outside the Peterborough and King’s Cliffe area.
  • You’re a runner who wants structured strength work.
  • You already train confidently on your own.
  • Your schedule won’t hold a fixed weekly slot.

Can you combine them?

Some people start in person to learn the lifts properly, then move to online once they’re confident on their own. The method is the same either way — Assess, Build, Perform, 100% natural — so nothing resets when you switch.

Questions to ask any coach before you pay

  • Who writes the programme — a person, or a template?
  • How often is it reviewed, and what changes it?
  • Is there a minimum term or cancellation fee?
  • Can they show results from people like you, with consent?
  • What happens if you get injured or your week falls apart?

Good answers to those matter more than the monthly price.

Common questions

On this topic.

How much does online coaching cost compared with 1:1?

Online coaching is £150 a month with no joining fee. 1:1 sessions are £40 each, or £350 for a block of ten, plus gym entry at the venue.

Does online coaching work as well as in-person training?

For many people who already train confidently, yes — the programme is written and adjusted by Nathan for you. If you’re new to lifting or returning from injury, in-person coaching is the better start.

Can I cancel online coaching at any time?

Yes. Online coaching is month to month with no minimum term.

Do I need a gym for online coaching?

No. The programme is written for the equipment you actually have, so tell Nathan what you can access — a full gym, a home set-up or somewhere in between.

Can I switch from 1:1 to online coaching later?

Yes. Many people start in person to learn the lifts, then move to online. The method is the same, so nothing resets when you switch.
